Overview
Celebrate the power of words and song! Join us for Tinworks’ second-annual Poetry and Songwriting Slam September 25, 7–10pm.
In collaboration with Bozeman Poetry Collective and singer songwriter Dane Andrew Thompsen, we invite you to submit your original poem or lyrical song for a chance to compete live against selected artists to win prizes.
Bringing your supporters is encouraged as audience engagement can sway judges. This event is free and open to the public. All ages welcome, however, artists’ content will not be censored.
Submission Requirements
Submissions are due September 15.
Submit song recordings in audio or video form to danethompsen@gmail.com.
Submit poems to bpcsubmissions@gmail.com.
- Submissions limited to 5 poems or 5 songs. Submissions must be between three to five minutes in length in an mp3 format.
- Include your name, title of poems or songs, email and phone number with your submission.
- All lyrics, audio, and poems must be original, no studio tracks, AI, or plagiarism allowed.
Judges are looking for passion, originality, confidence, and charisma!
Selected competitors will be contacted by September 18.
Five poets and five songwriters will be selected for competition in 3 rounds of performances.
About the Hosts
Bozeman Poetry Collective
The collective was founded in August of 2013 and meets monthly at Steep Mountain Teahouse, and weekly at Valhallah Meadery for open mic readings. Poets and enthusiasts of all disciplines and levels of experience are invited to come to events.
The Bozeman Poetry Collective’s goal is to establish a comfortable environment for local poets and poetry enthusiasts alike to share their original works or others’ works they enjoy while raising money for the SW MT community!

Dane Andrew Thompsen
Somewhere between Josh Ritter, Jeff Tweedy, and Jeffrey Foucault, there's Dane Andrew Thompsen. Since moving to Bozeman, Montana in 2012, Thompsen has been honing his brand of lyric-driven Americana in dive bars across the town. Along with a decade's experience working in the music industry and teaching songwriting, Thompsen's own music has coalesced into a collection of motifs drawn from numerous wellsprings across the music industry. With songs focused on the highs and lows of heartache, aimless living, friends, and family, Dane Andrew Thompsen shows are punctuated by poignant, soft moments along with high-energy exclamations of joy.
